In 2011, Shaw Direct began the transition to MPEG 4. This new type of encryption will allow Shaw Direct to put even more channels on their Satellites. Unfortunately this left many older receivers without access to much of the programming. Only the new 600 series receivers are able to decode the new signal. Currently these include the HD600, DSRHD605 and the EVPHD630. All these receivers are High Definition and much smaller then the previous versions.
